PROJECT BRIEF

Masons Scaffolding Ltd was appointed by 8 Build to carry out a full external access scaffold for the front and rear elevations of the iconic Egyptian & Dudley House located in Piccadilly. The complete scope of work involved providing a 10kN per square meter loading gantry running the full length of the elevation. This gantry was to serve as the main logistical artery of the project, supporting a 1-tonne lifting beam and a 1-tonne passenger goods hoist to facilitate the movement of materials in and out of the site.

SCAFFOLD SOLUTION

Additionally, we provided access scaffolding for both the front and rear elevations to assist with the refurbishment of this historic building. Given the project’s location and the necessity for the retail units to remain open during construction, careful planning was essential. Every detail was considered to ensure the safety of the public and all stakeholders during the erection and dismantling processes.

During the scaffold design stage, Masons Scaffolding collaborated with PSD Design and 8 Build to create a bespoke scaffold design that met our client’s expectations as well as the requirements of their subcontractors.

Due to the building being listed and its historical significance, producing a scaffold design that was practical for all external trades was a lengthy process. We also needed to secure approval from temporary works to justify the loads being imposed on the building.

The most challenging aspect of this project was the logistics, primarily due to the location and the high foot traffic that is ever-present around Piccadilly throughout the year.

All deliveries were coordinated with the logistics team, who did an excellent job ensuring that materials could be moved in and out of the project smoothly while working in the heart of the West End.

CURRENT PROGRESS

The project is now at the dismantling stage, and we are thrilled to report that it is progressing on schedule for our client. At Masons Scaffolding, we genuinely believe that this project has been immensely rewarding for numerous reasons.
