The brief

To erect an independent access scaffold encompassing the entire perimeter of the structure, supplemented by a loading gantry.

Overview

This involves one of the elevations being situated on the banks of the River Thames, in Rotherhithe.

The challenges we faced

One significant hurdle was finding a marine specialist to assist in creating comprehensive risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) tailored specifically for our first marine project. This collaboration was crucial to ensuring the safety of both our team members and the delicate marine environment. Basing out the scaffolding away from the waterbed required careful consideration to ensure minimal disturbance to marine life and the aquatic ecosystem. With a small working window dictated by the tide, we faced the additional constraint of only being able to work when the tide was out, necessitating precise scheduling and efficient utilisation of time and resources.

Interesting facts about the project

It was a requirement that there needed to be a daily interaction conducted at the beginning and end of each shift between our scaffolders and the harbour master, a unique necessity for ensuring enhanced safety measures. Additionally, Prince’s Tower boasts a moment in the limelight, having made an appearance on the popular television series “The Bill”.

Outcome

The project has been fully erected and handed over as of April 2024 to the client’s satisfaction.
